These new generations are what you call millennials and they grow up in a digital culture that is entirely different from us. According to the Cashlorette, they found out that around 30% of the millennials are more comfortable with discussing their salary or paycheck with their coworkers, friends, and family. This is relatively higher compared to the 8% of seasoned workers aging from 50-71 who felt comfortable discussing the same issue with their circle of networks. Why is it that millennials are more open when it comes to discussing their salary? Here are the handful reasons why.
Millennials Fight for Equality and Fairness in their Working Place
We’ve learned throughout the years that working in a company is more than just working. In fact, it’s a competition. You may want to be friends with your colleagues but you also want to make sure that you’re ahead of them. You must be better than them. Why? Because the promotion is at stake. You need to demonstrate excellent performance at all times.
While we see this competition as a positive thing to encourage yourself to do better in terms of your professional growth, we cannot deny the fact that it’s also killing the friendship and connection you have with your friends. Sometimes we go even as far as destroying someone else’s reputation because of our greed for power and money. And millennials don’t want that. While they encourage professional growth and promotion, they want to give a fair competition to everyone. Whenever their colleague gets promoted, they congratulate them on their progress and success. This, in turn, motivates them to do better work.
Millennials Value Open Communication and Transparency
The millennials today don’t want a secret, that’s why they’re open with their coworkers and colleagues. If you’re struggling with your work, then say so. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. They are more than willing to help you out. If there’s a conflict in a workgroup or team, they want to confront it face on and try to settle it. They believe that if everyone is in sync in working together, they’ll be able to achieve a common goal in an efficient and effective way.

The youth today want to do things together, rather than alone. Because they understand what is needed for a company to survive. Working in a company isn’t only limited to your own individual work. They believe in collaboration and teamwork. They believe that if everyone would just cooperate, they can conquer whatever tasks or projects assigned to them. Their team mantra has always been “All for one, one for all”. That’s why they also tend to go the extra mile in mingling and establishing a genuine friendship with their colleagues so that they’ll know them better personally. This will enable them to adjust their personalities in order to achieve a peaceful compromise.
Millennials Have The Same Financial Situations
One common reason why millennials are open to their salary and working arrangement is that they share the same situation and circumstances. Whether or not they’re broke, they find themselves in comfort because they can relate to the other’s financial dilemma.
