National Rifle Association Got More Funds Weeks After Florida Shooting!
14th of February which was Valentine’s Day was a black day for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School located at Parkland, Florida, when there was a mass shooting that left seventeen students dead. More than a month after, a huge amount of donations have started to flow in, and this kind-hearted gesture was being witnessed by the organization in charge of rifles, National Rifle Association.
According to reliable information released by Federal Election Commission, the raised funds into the NRA purse, specially created for its planned Political Victory since the first month of the year till February, have reached about three times its original size.
National Rifle Association got around $248,000 from various individual pledges during the first month; then the funds soared in the following month with over $778,900. The occurrence of incessant shootings have encouraged the enthusiasm and the trading in guns, and this can be seen by the latest incidences and the quantities of gun productions.
CRP Gives Data of Raised Funds
When the firing at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas occurred in mid-February, the massive donations have never stopped coming in, and there is no doubt that this financial help came as a result of the deadly event.
On the other hand, the Center for Responsive Politics, which is responsible for monitoring expenditures as they concern politics, trace detailed contributions from individuals that are up to $200 and published some data. Going by their released statistics, during the first two weeks after the tragic event, detailed donations that went into the purse of NRA were two times larger than the preceding two weeks.
However, all this information was released by CRP based on foundings, not based on certainty as to the reason behind the hike, because the organization admitted that it cannot point out the specific cause. CRP nonetheless suspected that the US president’s post-shooting comment which indicated that he’ll likely give maximum backup to stricter policies on the usage of guns, or that the support NRA asked, may be the motivation behind it.
NRA has a special fundraising account called ‘Political Victory Fund’, and it donates financial aids to political rallies and raises awareness to promote aspirants who have plans to make friendly-gun policies. The Political Victory Fund also serves as a transactional scheme for NRA where funds come in and go out.
In addition to the earlier reports by CRP, the gun organization, NRA, expended $50.4 million to execute seven major electoral contests in the 2016 elections. NRA supported six Senate aspirants from the Republican party, and one of them was obviously Trump, who eventually won the post.
A Bloody Day
It would be recalled that on the 14th of February 2018, a teenager by the name Nikolas Cruz, 19 years and an ex-student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, was seen entering the school premises and launched an assault of shooting with a semi-automatic gun, killing 17 people in the process. In addition, the doctors in charge of the wounded people reported that fourteen people were injured, among them were six victims who got inflicted with first-degree wounds.
According to the publicized report in February, security agents said that Nikolas tried to cover himself among the panic-stricken crowd who were trying to escape the bloody scene to safety on the afternoon of that Wednesday after the onslaught. Fortunately, his cover blew off at somewhere close to the vicinity of the crime scene, and he got apprehended.
Prior to the incidence, Cruz was an expelled student who found his way into the bad books of the school management, and he was reportedly registered in another school within the same locality. After the massacre, President Trump indicated interest in enacting stricter gun control laws to protect Americans.
