Waffle House Hero Saves Lives and Gathers $165,000 for Survivors

This hero can be referred to as an uncommon force to be reckoned with. He fought and overpowered an assailant who attacked a commercial building unexpectedly on Sunday. Few hours to the time this brave young man wrestled free a rifle in possession of the shooter who had already started shooting inside a Waffle House located in Tennessee, the savior of the place opened an online account in order to generate funds for the relief of the families whose members were victims of the circumstances.

Waffle House was attacked by a gunman last week, killing 4 people in the process

James Shaw Jr. is the superman who risked his life to save others. After opening the account on GoFundMe, an intensive awareness and solicitation for financial assistance was launched immediately, and by the afternoon of Thursday, close to $165,000 had entered the account, which was more than what Shaw Jr. had requested for and hope to gather. The said event, however, sent 4 victims to their early graves.

In the meantime, the restaurant at Antioch in Tennessee has promised to support the campaign with every single dime it makes from the customers in the coming one month and donate the money to every family of those victims who lost their lives and those who are still alive.

Shaw’s Rare Affection

James Shaw Jr. is a New York-based man who took it upon himself to start up the online campaign support for those affected. Over 5,500 people from across Tennessee rose to the call and together donated $165,000.

Also this week, the congressmen in Tennessee honored Shaw who is 29 years old by showering encomiums on him for the heroic act he put up and the undiluted affection he’s showing to those who got injured during the incidence.

The account of how Shaw got the shooter by a smart set up was given by the police who reported the case. He was seated at the Home’s counter beside one of his friends inside the Waffle House, then all of a sudden, a stranger bearing a gun and who only had on a green jacket started shooting sporadically from outside the restaurant.

Immediately, Shaw sprang up from where he was seated and glided forward on the floor to where the toilet was situated. All these while he was extra alert on the assailant, not taking off his eyes from wherever he might pop up again. Fortunately, the gunman broke the spate of his firing and Shaw hemmed in on him.

Our hero, notwithstanding his seemingly fearless action that saved more lives and almost captured the killer, confessed to journalists last Sunday that he thought he would die, but he bravely made a firm decision in his heart that even if he would be killed in the process, then the shooter should be ready to struggle hard before killing him.

The Scar that Tells the Story

He went on to say that when he finally and successfully wriggled the rifle free from the man’s hands, then he threw it at the back of the counter, while the shooter ran away. However, Shaw didn’t escape the combat without a scar or two.

Close to two days after the incident, the authorities luckily apprehended the suspected gunman who was identified as Travis Reinking. He’s been slammed with 4 types of charges bordering on criminal cases and murder. In addition, Reinking has also been charged with 4 counts of trying to commit murder, coupled with 1 count of illegal ownership of a firearm and committing an aggressive criminal offense with it. Investigation is still on and Shaw is not ready to abandon the victims until they receive all the necessary support they deserve.
