A new Tesla for Sullins

Ben Sullins, a popular YouTube vlogger, is about to add yet another Tesla to his collection of self-driven cars as he has won himself the highest prize available in the Tesla referral program. The automaker recorded more than $10 million in sales from the customers who used Sullins referral code and his facilitation of the sales won him a free Founder’s Next Gen Roadster.Although the Tesla model will be released in 2020, the 36 year-old content producer is, however, guaranteed as the owner of another Tesla plus his already owned Model S and Model 3 upon its release.

Tesla recorded over $10 million in sales from customers who used Sullins referral code.

Speaking to a media outlet, Sullins stated that when he redeems his prize, he has plans to go on a road trip together with his wife, share rides with people and attend car events. He noted his intention to achieve what Elon Musk seeks to achieve with the model which is to create a shift from cars powered by gas to cars that are electric.

It is worthy to mention that Sullins allegedly left his well-paying data scientist job in 2016 to venture into content producing for his channel on youtube: Teslanomics and his blog. In 2017, he became qualified for the free car, and up until now, more than 100 buyers have made use of his referral links to purchase their cars. Sources reported that Sullins is one of the best performing participants of the referral program and he is neither sponsored nor affiliated with the automaker.

Other rewards

Sullins explained that his choice of creating content on his blog and YouTube channel rather than creating online courses was because he wasn’t doing it for the money. Instead, he stated that he was in it for the fun and the fact that he gets to attend different events and do other things that made him satisfied.

It was sometime in July 2015 that the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, Elon Musk, officially announced the first Tesla referral programs for those who own Tesla to encourage others to purchase from the automaker and offered them incentives. At the time, Musk expressed uncertainty about the workability of the program, but Sullins’ success has gone on to show the practicability.

Through the same referral Program, Sullins also earned VIP invitations to the Tesla unveiling of Model 3 and Tesla Semi Truck , VIP Tesla factory tour and a Model S for a kid. Other rewards include prompt access to Solar Roof, its Powerall rechargeable home batteries and solar panel roof tiles. As of now, Sullins hasn’t personally met Musk, but they both interacted on twitter earlier in the year when they raised more than $18,000 and donated to charity. According to Sullins, what is important to him is making impact and making this world better.

Other rewards for Sullins include early access to Solar Roof, Tesla Powerall rechargeable home batteries, and early access to Solar Roof and Tesla’s solar panel roof tiles.

Tesla Referral program

The most recent round of Teslas referral program was extended on the 15th of June for two additional weeks. This referral program gives new Tesla buyers the opportunity to get a free Unlimited Supercharging for Model X and Model S cars for a more extended period.

Currently, the typical Supercharger access model when purchasing a new Tesla Model X or Model S is the pay-per-use model except in a case when an existing owner of a Tesla referred the buyer. In such a case of referral, the previous unlimited free access model will be used. However, those who buy Model 3 do not enjoy this incentive and automatically fall under the newly introduced pay-per-use model which involves paying per minute when charging at a station in locations where Tesla is unable to sell electricity because of local restrictions, or paying per kWh when charging from a Supercharger station.

It will be recalled that this round officially commenced on the 1st of May, but Tesla extended and updated its support page to provide an extension till July 31. Over the last series, Tesla has reportedly been using the same set of prizes, although with different metrics for determining eligibility for the prizes. For the current round, it is alleged that Tesla owners who get up to 5 referrals will be eligible for prizes such as Tesla Wall Connector, Powerwall 2, among others. Sources claimed that Tesla has not entirely delivered all the prizes from previous rounds, but earlier this month, it was reported that it has started giving the Powerwall 2 Founder series to winners.
