US, China Expand Critical Mineral Supply Chain Investments
Critical minerals have become a major focus for global economies as demand grows across technology, defense, and clean energy industries.
Both the United States and China are increasing government-backed investments to secure reliable access to these resources. The latest moves show how both countries are working to strengthen supply chains and reduce future risks tied to mineral production.
China and the U.S. Increase Investments
China has launched a new Beijing-backed mining investment firm aimed at strengthening overseas supplies of critical metals, according to Bloomberg. The initiative comes as growing pressure from the United States and Europe encourages China to expand the number of tools available to protect its mineral supply network.

At the same time, Washington has taken ownership stakes in several domestic rare earth companies. On Monday, the Pentagon also announced a $25 million investment in a startup developing minerals used in military equipment, including jets, missiles, and submarines.
A recent analysis found that the United States would need to spend $13.7 trillion over the next 25 years to completely remove its dependence on China for manufacturing and technology supply chains.
The estimate highlights the scale of the challenge as both nations continue investing in critical mineral resources that support future industrial growth, advanced technology, and national security.
