Daniels Attacks Cohen as Trump Is Barred From Viewing Documents

Wood Disregards Trump’s request

One judge working for the federal government last Monday implied that there is no readiness from her to permit a sole right to President Trump and allow him to be the first person who will review the seized documents, which were taken into the custody of the F.B.I. after Cohen’s offices were searched.

She also said that a standalone lawyer is being considered by her to be hired so as to help in evaluating the confiscated documents. Kimba Wood is gradually sliding into the matter by looking for the best recommendation that would settle the high-spirited battle between the investigators probing Trump’s personal attorney, Cohen, and Trump himself.

Judge Wood has refused to allow Trump cross check the voluminous documents before the investigators, in spite of his request. However, she resolved not to permit prosecutors to also view the documents immediately and she would make sure Trump gets duplicates of materials that concern him.

Attorneys working for Trump and Cohen, also investigators working in the American office of the attorney, the New York Southern District to be precise, had requested that Wood permit them to assess the confiscated materials so as to decide the ones that are likely to be shielded by lawyer-client right. Such move is crucial because it may influence the materials investigators can utilize during the probe.

After the raid, those in Trump’s administration opined that they viewed the Cohen probe as some sort of intimidation to Trump, more than what the probe by Robert Mueller, special investigator, is doing.

President Trump doesn’t look like a leader who will ever be free from scandals, because his administration has been facing one legal attack or the other since he assumed office in 2016.

The link between President Trump and Attorney Cohen

This is how Michael Cohen, who has been the personal lawyer to the president, is possibly connected to bribes that were given to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDoucgal, a former model for Playboy, who alleged that they once dated Trump.

Cohen came to the hearing last Monday because he was curtly summoned by the overall judge. He exchanged pleasantries with a legion of newsmen who were already seated close to the jury stand, then he settled down between the attorneys representing him without a word.

The confiscated materials may contain vital leads to Trump’s alliance with an attorney who was always assisting him in taking care of many Trump’s toughest private and commercial challenges. A good example of such challenges was the rumored affair with Stormy Daniels, an adult movie actress who accused the president and Cohen of bribing her with a sum of $130,000 for her to be mute about it.

Few minutes before the commencement of the proceedings, Stormy Daniels appeared closely followed by her personal attorney, Michael Avenatti. They both sat down close to one corner inside the court. Both Daniels and Cohen didn’t even attempt to look in each other’s directions, let alone greet each other, being the first physical contact they would be having in a courtroom, although they’ve been contending seriously through the use of media in the past weeks.

The hearing lasted for 150 minutes and it had a remarkable aspect to it because of the shocking discovery that the anonymous client who hired Cohen was Sean Hannity,a famous anchor on Fox News and a staunch fan of President Trump.

Cohen had been working for Trump for over 10 years, resolving tough cases such as the ones that border on infidelity and secret connections

The documents by the court which were earlier registered prior to the proceedings stated that Cohen’s defense attorneys had noted that Cohen had worked for three people by handling their legal cases some years back. According to the attorneys, two among these people were President Trump and Elliot Broidy, one benefactor from Republican, who stepped down some time ago from the assigned post he once held in Republican National Committee when news came up that Cohen once assisted him in setting up a bribe worth $1.6 million paid to one woman he once had an affair with.

When the proceedings were in progress, the judge, Wood, said that she thinks a ‘taint team’ (a distinguished team of investigators approved by the government) would be appropriate. She then gave her reasons for choosing a standalone attorney, who will also be referred to as a distinguished leader, which is to help in the evaluation. In the sense of justice, although not justice itself, just its point of view, a distinguished master is likely to be useful in this case, she said.

As soon as the proceedings came to an end, a drama ensued outside the hearing premises between Stormy Daniels and Cohen began. Daniels was bombarded by newsmen but she instead went for Cohen’s jocular by verbally assaulting him, yelling at him that he’s been behaving like someone immune to the rule of law for some years. She added by assuring him that she and her lawyer, Avenatti, are determined to ensure that the public gets the real truth behind the story. When she was done, she entered her car, an SUV painted black and drove away from the courthouse immediately.
